Jonathan is 4 years old and is fluent in Kaqchikel and is learning Spanish. He is the son of Juana, a weaver in rural Guatemala. Juana founded the women’s weaving cooperative named Sanik which is comprised of ten women in El Triunfo, an isolated community in the highlands of Sololá, Guatemala. Through the sale of hand-woven and hand-crafted goods, they have united to support their families and preserve their culture. The women use the art of back strap weaving to express their cultural identity, create their unique clothing, and generate income for their families.
With this chance to study at an international institution, Jonathan can change the entire future of his village. We are excited to fund for next year and watch him grow!
* Funding for tuition and transportation.
